What’s attacking us? technology and all of its relatives.
I recently started teaching ASL at my high school. I showed a video today, and TTY’s were among the topics. I was trying to explain a TTY, its evolutionary history, and how it works, and one of the students remarked, “It’s like IM.”
I went on to explain about all of the neat “hip gadgets” that can help deaf people communicate, and again – went back to the evolution, and remarked that my sons (now 24 and 28) absolutely “HAD” to have a pager/beeper when they were in high school. One of the students (different student) asked, “what’s a beeper?” When I did their attendance (on the computer, of course) I was surprised to see that she was born in 1990. Geez, 1990 was yesterday, right?
And then, I came home to relax and read the newspaper, and ACKKKK! I can’t escape!
