And how is this model different from the classic online course (is there such a thing as a ‘classic’ online course?) or a resource/gathered-teacher controlled course?
I don’t know if we can pigeon-hole any of these types of courses into one neat definition. I rather see them as a continuum.
This course is definitely different from [...]

I’m usually a special education teacher in a public high school - and I am the district vision teacher (TVI) as well. Being a generic special education teacher, the administrators have the freedom to move me around as best meets their needs. Thus, I’ve been an English teacher and an Earth Science teacher in the past [...]

I love this website. I was first intrigued because of its advertised premise of linking science, art, and human perception… and I wondered about all the places I could travel by using this website as my home base.
On these pages, you will find “stuff” that kids love; things they can do with their hands, and [...]

One thing I think other people need to know about distance education…
August 28th, 2005 · Comments Off
is that distance education does not [have to] mean “learning on your own.” There are people, places, and things (lions, tigers and bears, oh my!) available for your support, and interaction 24/7.

Distance Education… what it is and what it does… my perceptions as of 8/25/05

What it is:
Fast
Interactive
Flexible in fitting into complex lifestyles and responsibilities of today’s learners
Evolving
A continuum
Separated by distance (is this what they mean by an out-of-body experience?)
Accessible to underserved populations
A shift in paradigm from university as institution that provides instruction to university as an institution that produces learning. University no longer transfers knowledge, but creates environments that [...]

Blueberries
August 25th, 2005 · Comments Off
Hi, friends - I was following leads trying to figure out a definition of distance education and ended up with blueberries. Don’t ask how I arrived here… I couldn’t explain the path if I tried. However, since this is MY section of cyberspace, (and since I am playing with these tools so that - hopefully [...]

The Star Thrower
August 23rd, 2005 · 6 Comments
I awoke early, as I often did, just before sunrise to walk by the ocean’s edge and greet the new day. As I moved through the misty dawn, I focused on a faint, faraway movement. I saw a boy, bending and reaching and waving his arms – dancing on the beach, no doubt in celebration [...]

I just changed the presentation on my blog… somehow, I think this one is a better fit for my feelings about my participation in this technological adventure at the moment.
I’m also trying to change my avatar…. time will tell if I am successful.
Guess it means I’m trying to find my own footprints in [...]

Trial and error…over and over… back and forth…

but I’m here! Like Alice in Wonderland, I don’t know if I can find it again, though. This is the first time I think I’m on equal computer footing with my 23 year old son (who grew up in the computer age). I asked him for some help with wikis, blogs and moodles, and he [...]
